Honestly, none of the parameters you're thinking of really matter. The truth is, you need to put the ones with the best attitudes on the drums they don't necessarily want to play. They're the ones who will stay in band, play whatever instrument you put them on, and give it their best anyway.

Obviously their size comes into play in regard to who you put on the bottom bass drums. Be smart, teach the ones who need to be on one and two what they need to know to be successful there. At the end of the day, you need them to survive the season for their final performance and be able to do whatever the show demands of them.
