I'm a relatively new drummer, picked up the art around 3 years ago, but I'm already prepping for college auditions for drumline and symphonic placement, along with potentially a music minor. And I still have a wish list a mile long! Haha, I want to be extremely prepared to teach. I am very fascinated with different views on teaching and playing percussion, and I feel that by researching all of it, that will lead to the best experience I can provide for my students.

I want to get Julie Davila's book, but that is not high on my list right now. I also wonder if there were earlier editions of Bill's Rudimental Logic before 3.0, and what the differences were?

Edit: Maro Ford's book is also on my list. Beginning four mallet literature to my knowledge either starts here, or with Mitchell Peters, or with Julia Gaines' new book.

I actually haven't been through the teaching part of Davila's book. It's an old, beat-to-hell copy my friend gave me so I could attempt to learn one of the solos. I failed. Mark Ford's book is great, for sure, I agree. I'm not sure if I'll end up going into direct teaching. I could see myself as a tech with a high school, but not the nitty gritty aspect of teaching... I don't have the patience for it. I'd say the biggest way I'd like to expand is in performance literature, specifically on Marimba. Once my skill has improved a bit (I'm learning Sammut's Spiral 2 for Solo and Ensemble, which should help move things along technically) and I have more frequent access to a 5.0 Octave marimba, I think I'll definitely build up my collection.

yes, good plan. I thought I wouldn't want to do anything more than the percussion part of teaching until I got to student teach. Very rewarding to have the kids depend on you for instruction and see them succeed and achieve. Wonderful thing.
