The United States of America

Posted: Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:12 pm

This election year, regardless of who it is we and our loved ones vote for, I hope that each of us is mature, honest and brave enough to consider the message of this speech. For my money, it is the single greatest, most poignant, most honest, most CORRECT perspective on the the United States that could possibly be expressed with words. I hope that the ideas in this speech help each of us to vote wisely and to consider carefully the impact that our lives are having.

Its a great speech. Sorkin said something that I think most Americans wouldn't want to admit to but nonetheless know is true- that we're not the greatest anymore. We're just a regular country that happens to be larger than other ones. American exceptionalism is dead.

I'm glad he wraps it up by saying that its possible to be the greatest again. It turns a nostalgic and melancholy speech into an inspirational one.

I really agree with what this guy is saying, I've voiced it before but he summarized it for me.
Good post!

Amazing speech. The best I've ever heard in political(even a fake one) situation.

That's at least partly unwarranted.

The post or the opinion? I disagree on both counts

Shows that aren't garbage always fire their entire writing staff after the first season, right?

No. Sorkin knows that basically every intelligent critic tore his show to shreds.

It's basically given me an outside perspective on how things are fun-I've lived where things are done differently and have something to compare living in America to. Some things are better and some things are worse (for instance, the health care system in canada has just as many problems as the system in America).
