I used to call myself an independent because I didn't want to be considered one of those people who practices "party politics". Those days are over now. Though I still don't consider myself a liberal, I am 100% against the conservative view/mindset and will vote Democratic at every turn just to prevent a conservative from taking a public office.

especially with how in the last 15 years, the Republicans/conservatives have pretty much turned into Christian Fundamentalists along the same line as the Islamic Fundamentalists they fear and detest so much. I could never vote for anyone who would put us closer to a Christian based Theocracy...though we pretty much have been that anyway in the past

Contrary to what you might think, there are very intelligent people who consider themselves conservatives. They believe in individual liberties and Austrian economics. In that sense, they are "classical liberals" or "libertarians." They have largely been marginalized by social conservatives and the Christian right, who have taken over the Republican party to enforce their morality and assumptions upon others. That is the very antithesis of what real "conservatives" stand for.TVOham wrote:Why would you want to appeal to ignorant conservative voters???

I'll probably never vote for a Republican candidate for president, but I don't think all Republicans are as backwards as you think they are. Look at Jon Huntsman and Gary Johnson. They're reasonable men trapped in an unreasonable system; a system that pairs them directly with those whom they largely disagree with.

That's no way to speak to your board of representatives whose votes actually go towards choosing the next figurehead of the United States of America for the next four years!Lee clary wrote:Good for youhotbeats645 wrote:luckily, i am the Electoral CollegeLee clary wrote:Voting is stupid unless your the Electoral College.

Also, even if you believe this, this idea would only discount voting at the Presidential level.Lee clary wrote:Voting is stupid unless your the Electoral College.
Voting for your senators, representatives, state congressmen, state officials, governors, mayors, sheriffs, constables, county judges, other misc. local officials is extremely important to voicing your own opinion. Especially when so few people vote at the "lower" levels of politics - meaning your vote means more, statistically.
Voting is not stupid.

If noone gets 270, then the house picks the president and the senate picks the vice president. That's a huge assumption. The poll results aren't clear yet AND Congress would have to approve statehood, which I doubt they would.Bassnare wrote:Puerto Rico is going to be a state!

Glad to know that I can make some predictions that aren't completely off.ottomagne wrote:I'm calling his win through his incumbency advantage.
