Glissando on mallet instruments

What are the preferred methods for a glissando on each of the main mallet instruments? I was taught for xylo and bells to hit a starting note and slide the mallet across the keys to the end note given. I don't know any other approach to a glissando for mallet instruments. What are common ways to gliss on marimba, xylo, and vibes?

The marimbas at my school arent audible at all when we do that so my front captain told us to just run down all of the natural notes from the top to the bottom of the gliss and it works pretty well.

Start with a note and slide the mallets up the natural board. Usually glissandos lead to something, so actually hit the note at the end of the glissando if it is actually written as a full sized note head. Same with starting it, if it isn't written as a normal note head, I wouldn't actually hit that note, just place the mallets on and gliss at the same time if that makes sense.
