My school uses Ludwig and I'll say from first hand experience. They arent bad at all. The only thing I can't even attempt to complain about is the hardware but other than that I can't find anything wrong with them. And my school used to use pearl so I am comparing them to something.

well i was trying out a drum at my local music store, and it had an mx white on it, it might've been the tuning or it might've been the head, but it sounded DRY. since i was IN the store i could play very loud, but it was still dry, like almost no snare response. the feel was also harder than the hybrids, and kinda felt weird. it looked nice though

hope this helps in someway.

These are only products I've personally marched with/handled.
All sections of battery: Mapex > Pearl > Yamaha (Granted those yamahas were poorly taken care of before I even got there)
Sticks: IP > Promark > Vic
Heads: Remo > Evans
Pads: V3 > Slimpad > Real Feel
Howell Central - '06-'10
Taz Thunder!
Intrepid - '08,'09
Freedom - 2010-2012
Phantom Regiment - 2012

Snares: Yamaha SFZ Maple (the corps use these which is why the sound good), Pearl FFX Inner carbon, maple combo (again a corps only thing), Pearl Carbonply, Pearl FFX, Mapex, Dynasty, Yamaha SFZ (birch shells-noooo)

Tenors: Dynasty (their tonal drums sound so good), Pearl Carbonply, Pearl FFX, Yamaha, Mapex (they sound just as good if not better tuned right but I don't have much experience with them)

Basses: Mapex (however the hell Academy tuned them 05, they sounded amazing), Dynasty, Pearls, Yamahas

Sticks: Promark (they last longer and feel better I.E. DC-50), Vic Firth (good, but die too quick), IP (i mean, the FS-SG is great, but eh..)

Heads: Evans Hybrids w/ MX5 on bottom, Remo White/Black Max w/ Falams II on bottom. The only two setups I've used that sound good.
Capital Regiment 2009 (Bari)
Dominion Storm Indoor Drumline 2010, 11, 12 (Snare)

My opinions are MY OPINIONS. Don't get your panties in a bunch over it, we're all entitled to them.

Snare sticks

Vic's 'Mdawgs'> System blue's> IP Bret kuhn's

Vic's Mdawgs last and have a great feel.
System Blues are ok, the feel of the stick is better then Vic's Scott johnson, but the tip breaks after a few weeks of ping shots.
Innovatives just have a bad feel, and splinter

Snare Sticks-Vic Firth BETTER than Innovative? Really? I find that hard to believe. Innovative makes better quality sticks, IMO, I have used Vic Firth sticks, and I just don't like their feel. I really enjoy using the Innovative Casella's or the MacIntosh's. However, I do like the Firth tenor sticks, well at least the old Scojo ones.

With what I have experienced, these are overall comparisons.

Snares:
Pearl>Dynasty

Sticks:
DC50s>Scott Johnsons
They're the only sticks I use, at all. I wouldn't even bother with comparing the two because Dc50s are the only sticks i like form promark and vic firth has a few more.

Pad:
V3>Slimpad>Reel feel>Vater
Last two are garbage.

I like my stockpad, I mean, I really don't get the difference between stockpad and slimpad, except the slimness factor, but, I really don't care about that.

But, I really like my Heavy Hitter pad, and I have used the dynasty pad, but, it's heavier, and the drum sizes are accurate, but I still like the general feel of heavy hitter much more.

the year they used purple drums, they were ludwig. my drumline instructor taught that snare line.

Call me old fashioned but I love Pearl anything. Although, their indoor quads are the downfall. They have a great sound, but they are constantly falling apart. Also, kind of off topic but... this past year we used all Remo heads(as always) but the 10'' quad heads were breaking about every 6 seconds.
